The current times are defined by high demand and low supply on the real estate market. Therefore, people seek alternative ways of living in the city centre of Bratislava. The assignment for this project arose from the need to use the unused pool hall in a family house for living, and thus create another housing unit that can function independently within the house, yet remains connected to the original apartment on the floor. This creates multi-generational living for a young couple with their parents, with enough privacy but the advantage of being close to each other.

The space had a problematic orientation and insufficient lighting, which we partially solved by cutting out new windows, so that they provide enough light and at the same time a connection with the garden. We partitioned the space with a furniture wall made out of ash veneer, that separated the bedrooms with the staircase and thus created a dimensionally rational night zone.

Os quartos estão orientados a nascente, para que recebam bastante sol da manhã. Deixamos deliberadamente o máximo de espaço para a área de estar principal. Ao inserir elementos de mobiliário individuais, criamos zonas naturalmente separadas de entrada, sala de jantar, cozinha ou sala de estar. É deliberadamente embutido abaixo do nível do espaço envolvente, graças ao qual adquire intimidade e uma perspectiva de altura diferente, mas também aponta para o uso original do espaço.

A materialidade geral é moderada, o único destaque de cor é uma viga azul com uma coluna que aponta para o elemento central de suporte do espaço. O revestimento de aço inoxidável do banheiro e do lavabo cria reflexos de luz e compensa parcialmente a falta de luz natural na profundidade do layout. Com uma cortina em arco é possível fechar o espaço para a noite e assim criar uma configuração espacial diferente e, ao mesmo tempo, intimidade suficiente com o ambiente envolvente.
